Mission Statement

Our coaches are committed to creating an environment of competitive softball in which young players learn, grow and are challenged.  Strong emphasis is placed on good sportsmanship and academic excellence.

Firestorm players commit to work on a future where education is of utmost importance.  The Firestorm organization will prepare and guide players in the college recruiting process.

Our teams will develop a winning attitude  by being respectful, dedicated, focused and always striving to do their personal best on and off the field.

Members of the Firestorm family will focus on excelling at all aspects of the game while earning our victories with honor. We will treat everyone with respect and display good sportsmanship at all times.

Alma Mejia-Garcia, Director of Player Development, 16U Head Coach

Coach Alma was born in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico. Although she was not born with a glove and bat in her hand, she was born into a life shaped by 2 generations of baseball icons. She began playing softball at the age of 12. Motivated by the sport, she played throughout middle school in El Paso, Texas and high school in Rio Rico, Arizona. While in high school, she discovered her ability to pitch and earned several local and state recognitions. She joined a pioneer group of women that began competitive softball in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico. After winning 3 city league championships, she began playing in State and National tournaments throughout Mexico. Coach Alma earned a degree in Secondary Education from the University of Arizona, and has taught and coached volleyball, basketball, and softball at San Miguel High School and Amphi High School. Coach Alma’s love for education and the young people entrusted to her care motivated her to earn her Masters degree in Education in 2015 from St. Mary’s College in Moraga, California.

Coach Alma is currently the Softball JV Head Coach at Salpointe High School and is excited to help build motivated, well-rounded female athletes supported by loving families who provide discipline and encouragement.
